Guidance & Navigation

Brain injuries are incredibly complex, and the short- and long-term effects that result from them can vary significantly from one person to another.

Beyond the severity of the injury, an individual can face different challenges due to their age. One example is young adults and teenagers—who face unique stresses in their daily lives but do not yet have fully developed brains.

Minds Matter, LLC and our network of functional therapists understand young adults require different services than those in other age groups. Our highly trained team works with adolescents and families across the state of Kansas—where we utilize a collaborative, strengths-based approach to adolescent brain injury rehab.

Our Approach to Young Adult Services

Young adults and teenagers have different developmental needs than adults or children, and therefore will require a different approach to rehabilitation. In addition to not having a fully developed brain, people in this age group also face unique stresses. Many adolescents face the pressure of making major life decisions for the first time in their life—leaving them particularly vulnerable to certain cognitive, behavioral, and speech-language concerns.

Minds Matter and our exceptional team of therapists work to understand these particular challenges to create tailored therapy plans. Most importantly, we help young adults understand their therapy goals and implement proven methods to help them reach those benchmarks—while also adjusting our strategy based on the individual’s personal developmental needs.

Home Modification Guidance and Advocacy

Those recovering from a brain injury may require certain modifications around their home to help with daily living. We assess and guide each modification based on the specific needs of each young adult—helping them achieve a greater sense of control while increasing safety. These modifications can include ramp installation, bathroom modifications, and much more. Our staff can complete written evaluations, make recommendations, and provide education and support on securing funding.

Educational & Employment Resources

Brain injuries not only affect a young adult’s development, but they can also throw a major wrench in their future plans. Many individuals in this age group are preparing to make important decisions related to their education, employment, relationships, and more. Minds Matter works with numerous organizations across Kansas that assist young adults in setting goals with the proper support in order to manage future plans during their rehabilitation process.

Therapy Services

Brain injuries can significantly impact a young adult’s physical, cognitive, and behavioral functions. Minds Matter, LLC offers highly trained physical, occupational, speech, behavioral, and cognitive therapists—each of whom provides diligent care centered on the individual, their needs, and the needs of those closest to them. We offer these services both in-home and via telehealth services.
