Providing Support for Support Systems

The experience of brain injury is a marathon, not a sprint. The marathon includes the services needed as well as the family support needed along the way.

When working with individuals who’ve experienced brain injuries, the team at Minds Matter, LLC understands the important role that their friends and family members play.

Our Approach to Friend & Family Assistance

When a loved one’s journey with Minds Matter begins, our therapy teams ensure that friends and family members have their voices heard. Some key aspects of our approach include:

Collaborative Care

Functional rehabilitation therapy is a joint effort in every sense at Minds Matter. Each person has different needs to accommodate and skills they want to learn—and nobody knows those better than the individual and those nearest to them. At Minds Matter, while the consumer is in charge of their own decisions and journey, we consider the needs of support members at the consumer’s request. This individual-centered approach helps give control back to the person and empowers them as they work toward independence.

Skill Building

While a loved one adjusts to life with a brain injury and its subsequent effects, family and friends will need also need to accept that they’ve entered a new chapter in their lives as well. Though challenges will arise, Minds Matter and its team members can help these individuals build the skills needed to support that person and their journey toward an independent lifestyle.

Resources

A major aspect of brain injury rehabilitation centers around helping individuals regain control within their lives. What that looks like will depend on the individual and their specific therapy goals. For some, this may involve achieving an educational goal or relearning the skills needed to re-enter the workforce. For others, it could include regaining their ability to cook at home or drive a car.

Minds Matter works with a number of organizations across the state of Kansas that help people of all ages and their families find success by setting and achieving attainable, yet personally fulfilling goals.
