Each year, the Brain Injury Association of Missouri (BIA-MO) brings together survivors, families, professionals, and supporters for one of its most meaningful events: Bowling for Brain Injury. More than just a day at the bowling alley, this signature fundraiser helps provide education, advocacy, resources, and support to individuals living with brain injury throughout Missouri.
The 2026 event once again demonstrated the power of community. Team members, sponsors, and supporters gathered across the state to raise awareness and funds that directly impact the lives of brain injury survivors and their families.
What Is Bowling for Brain Injury?
Hosted annually by the Brain Injury Association of Missouri, Bowling for Brain Injury is the organization’s largest fundraising event. Participants raise donations and then celebrate together with an afternoon of bowling, pizza, and fellowship. The event is designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming people of all abilities and providing adaptive equipment when needed.
Funds raised through Bowling for Brain Injury support BIA-MO’s mission to promote acceptance, independence, and productivity for individuals with brain injury while providing education and resources to families, caregivers, and professionals throughout Missouri. Founded in 1982, BIA-MO serves thousands of individuals each year through support groups, seminars, advocacy initiatives, and community programs.
Minds Matter Participates in Bowling for Brain Injury
This year, Minds Matter was proud to participate in the Kansas City Bowling for Brain Injury event. Representing Minds Matter were David Robinson (Office Records Coordinator), Matthew Kaiser (Navigating Home Specialist), and Caden Heany, whose presence served as a meaningful reminder of why events like this matter.
At Minds Matter, we believe in supporting individuals who have experienced brain injury as they live, work, and play in their communities. Participating in Bowling for Brain Injury aligns closely with our values of advocacy, inclusion, creativity, and person-centered care.
Beyond the strikes and spares, the event provided an opportunity to connect with others who understand the lifelong impact of brain injury. Survivors, family members, healthcare professionals, and community partners all came together with a shared purpose: ensuring that no one affected by brain injury has to navigate the journey alone.

Why Brain Injury Awareness Matters
Brain injury is often called an “invisible injury.” While physical recovery may occur, many individuals continue to face challenges with memory, communication, fatigue, emotional regulation, and daily activities. These effects can impact not only survivors but also families and caregivers.
Organizations like the Brain Injury Association of Missouri play a critical role in helping people access resources, find support, and connect with others who share similar experiences. Through educational programs, support groups, advocacy efforts, and events like Bowling for Brain Injury, BIA-MO helps foster hope and community across the state.
More Than a Fundraiser
What makes Bowling for Brain Injury so special is that it goes beyond raising dollars. It raises awareness. It creates connections. And it reminds survivors and families that they are part of a larger community that understands the challenges and triumphs that come with life after brain injury.
According to the Brain Injury Association of Missouri, donations support services that provide help, hope, and healing to survivors and their loved ones. These resources make a lasting difference for individuals throughout the state.
Minds Matter is grateful to the Brain Injury Association of Missouri for continuing to advocate for the brain injury community and for hosting events that bring people together in such a meaningful way. Although the in-person event has ended, fundraising continues virtually through June 30, providing additional opportunities to support this important cause.
We are honored to have joined fellow advocates, survivors, and supporters at Bowling for Brain Injury and look forward to continuing to support BIA-MO’s mission in the years ahead.
Together, we can continue building awareness, strengthening communities, and ensuring that individuals living with brain injury have access to the support and opportunities they deserve.
